To the editor:
It was with great interest that I found out Republican Councilmen Steve Bonnani and Bob Solari had attended the fundraiser for appointed 4th Ward Democrat Ken Schaffer and were supporting Mr. Schaffer’s candidacy in November’s general election over the more qualified New Republican candidate, Tom Milhous. Particularly significant is the fact that Councilmen Bonnani and Solari voted to appoint Mr. Schaffer to City Council in the first place to fill the then vacant 4th Ward seat and now they are publicly backing Mr. Schaffer in the general election.
Over the last several months Mr. Schaffer has attempted to portray himself as an independent thinker, but it is clear now that he is nothing more than another “business as usual” Brigantine politician tied to members of the old Republican regime who have taxed and spent Brigantine into the desperate situation we now find ourselves. After all, Mr. Schaffer voted in favor of former City Manager Barber’s separation agreement with the city, and now Mr. Schaffer voted in favorable result at the city’s expense in connection with a parcel of real estate he owns in Brigantine. What will it take to stop all of this bad decision making and political favoritism? The obvious answer is to clean house and replace Mr. Schaffer and his old Republican regime friends with truly qualified and fiscally responsible people like Tom Milhous.
