Boating safety courses

New Jersey Boating Safety Courses are offered at the U.S. Coast Guard Training Center from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. on May 18, June 22, July 20 and Aug. 10. This course is required for all vessel operators and personal water craft operators in New Jersey. It is offered by USCG Auxiliary – Flotilla 82, Cape May. Cost is $55 and lunch is provided. Traditional Jazz

The Cape May Traditional Jazz Society will present the Al Harrison Dixieland Band featuring Al Harrison trumpet, Joe Midiri clarinet, Bill Newnam trombone, Jim Parker tuba, Lew Leabman drums and Franny Smith banjo will play from 2 to 4 p.m. on Sunday, April 21 at VFW Post 386, 419 Congress Street in Cape May. On Sunday, May 18, the Ben Mauger Vintage Jazz Band will play Tickets are $15 in advance and $20 at the door ($15 for jazz society members). Free parking, cash bar and optional dinner at 4:30 p.m. Proceeds will be donated to the Food Bank of Southern Jersey to help support local needs.

Computer classes

Cape May City Elementary School will offer adult computer classes to anyone 18 years and older from 3:15 to 4:45 p.m. every Tuesday in the school lab. The current course is about using the Internet and runs through April 23. The last course runs from April 30 through May 28 and will be a question and answer type session. National Guard breakfast

The next Cape May County Army National Guard Association breakfast will be held at 9 a.m. on Saturday, April 27 at the Villas Diner, 2100 Bayshore Road. All branches of the military are welcomed, as well as new members who have been honorably discharged from service, along with those currently serving. CCA fundraiser

The Pilot House will host a Puerto Vallarta Night fundraiser for Center for Community Arts and WFCA-LP 101.5 FM from 5 to 8 p.m. on Sunday, April 28 at the restaurant, 142 Decatur Street (just off the Washington Street Mall) in Cape May. There will be an open bar, buffet, live entertainment from the Pilot House Singers and Players. Cost is $25. A silent and bag auction will add to the fun. The proceeds of this fundraiser will benefit the CCA and WFCA, which serves Avalon, Stone Harbor, Middle and Lower Townships and Cape Island. Garden Club flower show

The Garden Club of Cape May is presenting a flower show themed “Victorian Pastimes: The Way It Was” noon-5 p.m. Tuesday, April 30 at the Cape May Convention Center on the promenade. Restricted by social rules and traditions, the Victorians successfully communicated through the language of flowers. The show features floral design entries in eight artistic classes from tussie-mussies to window box gardens and horticulture exhibits in multiple categories. See the original pressed flower pictures made by the Cape May City Elementary School first graders and the “Pockets filled with Posies” designs created by the Cape May County Technical School students. Boating safety classes

One-day classes on boating safety will be held on Saturdays, May 4, June 1, July 6 at Price Hall, Academy and Seashore roads in Cold Spring. Students will receive a New Jersey Safe Boating Certificate, which is required by law for all persons 16 years of age and over who intend to operate a personal watercraft or vessel 12 feet or over. Instructors are qualified personnel of the U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary, Flotilla 86. Cost is $45. For reservations, schedules and more information, call 889-2236. Angelus Chorus concerts

The Angelus Chorus will hold open concerts at 4 p.m. on Sunday, May 5 at the Performing Arts Center; 4 p.m. on Sunday, May 19 at Sea Isle City United Methodist Church. The May 5 concert is the chorus’ sixth annual benefit concert, which will raise money for those affected by Hurricane Sandy.

Card party luncheon

The Cape Regional Medical Center Auxiliary will host its 10th Annual Card Party Luncheon from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Thursday, May 23 at The Grand Hotel in Cape May.  Tickets are $27 for a choice of grilled salmon or pork medallions, which includes beverage, salad and dessert. A cash bar will be available. For reservations call Sue at 884-9155.

Comedy festival

The Cape May Comedy Festival will be held July 26-28 in Cape May at varying venues targeting a broad range of audience and industry demographics.

Teen dancing

Teen dancing has returned to Cape May Convention Hall. The monthly event features a safe and friendly environment for seventh through twelfth graders. Admission is $5. Tickets can be purchased at the Cape May Convention Hall beginning at 6:30 p.m. on nights of the dance. Local DJ and Police Athletic League representative Tony Genaro will play house music. Line up and request your favorite songs.
