CAPE MAY - The Cape May Artists Cooperative Gallery will host its monthly Second Sunday at the gallery in the West End Garage on Sunday, Jan. 13.
Refreshments will be served from 1 to 4 p.m. and the artists will be on hand to answer questions about their work. The Gallery Walk is a partnership of the Artists Co-op, Splash and Mad Batter Restaurant.
The co-op is featuring all of its members in a group show this month.
Artists have been challenged with creating a work that fits into a 12-inch-by-12-inch frame.
Several members have chosen to create works within that size but others have chosen to use a shadow box to illustrate their processes as well as their work. Diana Cutshall demonstrates how she creates a color coded grid before creating her intricate beaded works. Wood-turner Betty Campbell’s shadowbox shows the anatomy of a wooden pen from block to finished product. Fiber artist Mary Stewart illustrates how 2-D materials become 3-D objects. Painter Patricia Neville has created a 12-inch square montage of her works. Work in several media are included in the show.
The Artists' Cooperative Gallery is a group of local artists who have joined together to showcase and sell their work as well as educate the public about their art forms. Light refreshments will be served.
Co-op President Diane Cutshall said she is delighted that Second Sundays are now a city-wide celebration of local art.
“We began Second Sundays so the community could meet our artists and learn about their work. Now the opportunities for artists are so much greater with the wonderful gallery scene that has grown in Cape May,” Cutshall said in a prepared statement. The Artists Cooperative Gallery is open Friday, Saturday and Monday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Sunday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Call 770-8261 for information.
