13th annual film festival to feature ‘Beasts of the Southern Wild’  13th annual film festival to feature ‘Beasts of the Southern Wild’  CAPE MAY – The Cape May Film Festival will host its 13th Annual Film Festival Oct. 25-27 at the Chalfonte Hotel, 301 Howard Street in Cape May, featuring Cape May native producer Chris Carroll and his Academy Award nominated film, “Beasts of the Southern Wild.”

The film was nominated for four Oscars last year, including Best Picture, Best Directing (Benh Zeitlin), Best Leading Actress (Quvenzhane Wallis), and Best Screen adaptation. The film also won two awards at the Sundance Film Festival, Cannes Film Festival, and the American Film Institute’s 2013 Best Movie of the Year.

“Beasts of the Southern Wild” tells the story of Hushpuppy, a small girl living in a ramshackle island town affectionately called “The Bathtub” by locals because its propensity to flood. The story unfolds as the town prepares for flooding. There are a few locals who are adamant about riding out the storm.

Tickets for the festival start at $10 per screening and $35 for a weekend pass.

The Cape May Film Festival has hosted an annual festival since 2001, and it has won the New Jersey’s People Choice Award for Favorite Film Festival three years in a row.
