LOWER TOWNSHIP – Police have arrested the man they say shot and killed Christopher Turner last week after a fight at a home in Villas.

County prosecutor Robert Taylor and Lower Township Police Chief Brian Marker issued a press release Monday, Nov. 26 announcing the arrest of Bernard E. Green. He is accused of the Nov. 20 shooting and killing of Turner. Both men are from Villas.

Green surrendered himself to the Cape May County jail, according to the release. He was charged with first degree murder, second degree burglary, second degree weapons offenses and third degree hindering. Bail was set at $750,000.

Lower Township police responded to an emergency call of a shooting at 15 Ellery Ave. around 12:10 a.m. Tuesday, Nov. 20. On arrival, police found Turner, 44, of 36 Alexander Ave. in Villas, had been shot and killed.

The prosecutor’s office Major Crimes Unit and Crime Scene Unit responded to assist the Lower Township Police Department in conducting the investigation.

The prosecutor’s office said initial reports indicate that Turner was a visitor at the residence on Ellery Ave. when he was confronted by Green, who was also a visitor. The two men fought and Turner was shot.

Green then fled the scene.

The prosecutor's office Major Crimes Unit, Crime Scene Unit, Lower Township detectives and Middle Township detectives are investigating.
