CAPE MAY – City officials here backed increases to beach tag fees, introducing a new ordinance at November’s last regular council meeting.
Public hearing and final vote on the increases will be held at the Dec. 3 meeting.
As proposed, the daily pass will go from $5 to $6, and seasonal tags will go from $25 to $28. The extra money is earmarked for the construction of more permanent public restrooms near Convention Hall, facilitating the removal of portable restrooms staged on Gurney Street.
Seasonal tags purchased early would remain at $15.
Daily tags prices were last raised in 2009 and weekly tags in 2011.
City officials anticipate the fee increases would net some $125,000 above the $2 million in beach fees collected last season.
