WEST CAPE MAY – Freeholder Will Morey and hosted a public information meeting Monday Feb. 11 to discuss proposed improvement projects for the intersection of West Perry Street (County Road No. 606), Myrtle Avenue and Park Boulevard.

The county’s consultant, Urban Engineers, Inc. of Cherry Hill, presented the progress of the project design and garnered input from residents, public officials, business owners and community groups.

The object of the project is to address uncontrolled and sometimes confusing “wide expanse of asphalt” of this intersection, according to a press release. A roundabout is being considered to control the intersection rather than the typical traffic signal.

This is the first roundabout design being considered by Cape May County.

Other improvements planned are the replacement of deteriorated or missing curbs about Wilbraham Park, the reconstruction of Myrtle Avenue between Broadway and Park Boulevard and geometric and pedestrian improvement to the intersection of Broadway (County Road No. 626), Sunset Boulevard (County Road No. 606) and West Perry Street.

The project will require the relocation of some utility facilities such as poles and wires. Storm water runoff will be studied and addressed as part of the project.

Construction is expected to occur in the off-season between 2013 and 2014, when funding is in place.
