Volunteers needed
The Ventnor senior citizen transportation service is a free shuttle available to all senior citizens residing in Ventnor and provides rides to anywhere in the Downbeach area of Ventnor, Margate, and Longport. In its 15th year, the program is performed by volunteer dispatchers and drivers. Anyone who can donate three hours a day, 9 a.m.-12 p.m. Monday-Friday is encouraged to call (609) 823-7994. Leave your name and phone number on the answering machine and someone will return your call.
Home and School Pathmark fundraiser
The Ventnor Home and School Association has joined the Pathmark Community Rewards program. To participate pick up a Pathmark Perks Card at the customer service desk and register it at escrip.com/Pathmark or by calling (800) 931-6258. Using it will result in 1 percent of the purchase amount being donated to the association every time it is used.
AARP
Ventnor AARP Chapter 1724 meets 1:30 p.m. the second Monday of the month at the Ventnor Library and Cultural Arts Center, 6500 Atlantic Ave. Call (609) 572-1960 to confirm dates.
Ventnor City Republican Club
The Ventnor City Republican Club meets 6:30 p.m. the third Monday of every month in the Community Room of the Ventnor Library and Cultural Arts Center. Meetings are held May through October. Annual dues are $15. Call President Sonia Loadenthal at (609) 822-4683.
Tai chi and qigong

South Jersey Knitters Guild

Epiphany Arts Café
Artists are encouraged to bring their sketchbooks, paints and musical instruments for the weekly Epiphany Arts Café 6-9 p.m. Fridays at the Church of the Epiphany, 6605 Atlantic Ave. Refreshments will be sold and donations will be accepted. See ventnorisart.com.
Players and Playwrights by the Jersey Shore
The Players and Playwrights by the Jersey Shore group meets 1 p.m. the last Saturday of the month at the Ventnor Library and Cultural Arts Center, 6500 Atlantic Ave. Bring copies of original work to the second floor of the library. After school programs at JCC
The Katz JCC offers after a variety of after school programs for children between kindergarten and fourth grades. Programs include Kids Krav Maga, a child self-defense course 4:30-5:30 p.m. on Mondays and Wednesdays. Cost is $150 per session. Yoga and Art with instructor Deana Bongfiglia is 4:30-5:30 p.m. on Wednesdays. Cost is $15 per class. Science Explorers includes five separate courses spanning five sessions each 4-5 p.m. on Tuesdays at $75 per session. Art at the JCC is 4-5 p.m. on Thursdays with five courses throughout the year at $75 per session. See www.jccatlantic.org
Ask the Rabbi
Rabbi Gordon Geller presents “Ask the Rabbi” 1:30-3 p.m. every Monday at Temple Emeth Shalom, 8501 Ventnor Ave. Geller will answer questions congregants have always wanted to ask but never quite got around to asking. Call (609) 822-4343.
Daily programs for seniors
The Martin Bloom Community Center, located directly behind the Margate Library at Huntington Avenue and the beach, offers daily programs for seniors from Margate and Longport. Mondays include mahjong, pinochle and knitting starting at 9:15 a.m. Tuesday includes the same plus bridge. On Wednesday mahjong lessons begin at 10 a.m. On Thursday the walking group meets at 8 a.m. to walk the Ventnor Boardwalk and chair aerobics begins at the center at 10 a.m. Canasta lessons start at 9 a.m. Friday mornings and is followed by open play at 10. Contact offers friendly calls
If you know of an elderly or disabled relative or neighbor who would benefit from a friendly hello every day, Contact Cape Atlantic can help. A volunteer will call every day to check in and make sure there are no medical emergencies. The goal of the program is to keep the elderly and disabled safe, secure and in their homes. Margate residents can save when they shop, dine and play in Margate at participating Margate Business Association merchants via a free discount card. Margate Pride
The city of Margate is looking for volunteer block captains who will be trained to distribute information to neighbors about trash and recycling, to notify public works if there is a street, sewer, lighting or other neighborhood infrastructure problem, and to serve as a liaison between their neighbors and the police and fire departments.
