MAYS LANDING - Harry J. Rescigno, 44, of Margate was charged with second degree theft by deception and third degree insurance fraud in connection with a claim filed June 30 with the Deptford Township Police Department when Rescigno reported to police that his 2006, 28-foot Sea Ray Sun Dancer had been stolen. He said it was taken from the parking lot of American Auto Glass on Hurfville Road in Deptford Township.
Shortly after contacting the police, Rescigno filed a claim with his insurance company in the amount of $85,000. With the help of Somers Point Police Detective Roy Grandy and Detective Ken Bachman of the Atlantic County Prosecutors Office Insurance Fraud Unit the boat was discovered in a marina in Somers Point where it was being stored under shrink wrap, according to Atlantic County Prosecutor Theodore Housel.
The investigation revealed that Rescigno made a payment to the marina to store his boat there through the end of October. The payment for the slip at the marina was made after the boat had been reported stolen by Rescigno.
