MARGATE - The shore’s signature event of fall starts at 10 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 24 with Teddi Fusco of Margate singing the national anthem in front of Blue Water Marina on Amherst Avenue.

From there it is non-stop fun during Fall Funfest hours 10 a.m.-7 p.m. Saturday and 10 a.m.-6 p.m. Sunday.

The Wetlands Wonderland will be headquartered at Ray Scott’s Dock with rescued diamondback terrapins and a walk-through science class of life in the back bays.

Scott partners with scientists from Drexel University and students currently studying reptiles as well as representatives from the Wetlands Institute.

Together they provide a first-class, hands-on experience for kids of every age. Whether it’s turtles, snakes or microscopic mollusks, there is something to be seen at Scotts Dock.

At noon the Coast Guard will conduct a sea rescue demonstration just off the Margate Municipal Dock at Amherst and Washington avenues - a crowd favorite every year. They will repeat the rescue at noon Sunday.

At 12:30 p.m. the kids stage comes alive with the Brain Wash Trivia Show. Come back to the same location at 3:30 p.m. for the Magical Shop of Wonders stage show.

Music is a huge part of the Fall Funfest and the stage at Coolidge and Amherst will rock for two solid days.

Those events and sandwiched in between 17 different food vendors that will have just about everything one might even think of being hungry for. Brick oven pizza? Got it. Gnocci’s? Got them too. Cheese steak, barbeque, crab cakes? Have all of them on tap as well. Speaking of on tap, there is a beer garden should any one feel a little parched.

How about 59 different vendors? That is what the Fallfest has scheduled. Whether you are looking for gourmet dog biscuits or funky handbags, there will be someone offering something they hope will appeal to every taste.

Sunday has some great highlights as well with the first ever visit to Margate by the fuzzy man in green, the Phillie Phanatic. He will appear from noon to 1 p.m. Sunday to make some new friends in Downbeach.

Then at 1 p.m. Kozak the Magician will host the 15th annual Dog Show at Steve and Cookies by the Bay. Prizes go to the best dressed and the pooch that looks most like its owner. Always fun, the registration begins at 10:30 a.m. and the show starts promptly at 1 p.m. under the tent in the parking lot at 9700 Amherst Ave.
