Ventnor man pleads guilty to bank robberies in Margate, Absecon

CAMDEN – A Ventnor man pleaded guilty Wednesday, Feb. 15 to robbing two local banks in 2010.

William F. Plyler, III, 33, pleaded guilty before U.S. District Judge Joseph E. Irenas in Camden to an information charging him with two counts of bank robbery.

Plyler robbed the Ocean City Home Bank in Margate on July 23, 2010, and The Bank in Absecon on Aug. 5, 2010, U.S. Attorney Paul J. Fishman said.

According documents filed in this case and statements made in court, Plyler walked into each bank, approached the teller counter, and pointed his finger at a teller as he demanded money. The tellers at each bank gave Plyler the money from their top drawers before he fled on foot.

The bank robbery counts to which Plyler pleaded guilty each carry a maximum potential penalty of 20 years in prison and a $250,000 fine. Sentencing before Judge Irenas is scheduled for June 8.

Fishman credited special agents of the FBI, under the direction of Special Agent in Charge Michael B. Ward in Newark; the New Jersey State Police; Margate City Police Department; and the Absecon Police Department for the investigation leading to the guilty plea.

The government is represented by Assistant U.S. Attorney Jacqueline M. Carle of the U.S. Attorney’s Office Criminal Division in Camden.
