MARGATE - This Sunday the Margate Log Cabin will have great food, great music and hopefully the Rockin’ for Life event 4-9 p.m. will raise some money to help the Anderson family of Margate. Karen Anderson passed away two years ago from cancer, and her son, 16-year-old Alex suffers from Von Hipple Landau, a rare form of cancer that has affected his eyesight and his hearing.
Three soon to be seniors at St. Augustine Prep are behind the fundraiser, Tyler Imber, Blake Rossell, both of Margate, and Dan Magro of Brigantine. "It is our caritas project," Imber said. "Caritas means love, and every junior has to do a caritas project that includes 100 hours of service. I was really close with Karen Anderson, and when she passed two years ago I wanted to do something for her family. I have also been friends with Alex and the family has had a tough time. If we can do something that helps them with all of the expenses they have, it would really be a great thing," said Imber.
The event will feature raffles with Flyers memorabilia and restaurant certificates among other items. Imber said they will be accepting items to raffle up until Sunday. The music for the event promises to be a lot of fun. They will have live music from Screaming Broccoli, a popular East Coast cover band.
The menu includes meatballs, sausage and peppers, pasta, baked ziti, hamburgers, hot dogs and potato salad. For the over-21 crowd the $25 admission includes beer, and under 21 includes soda and is $15.
Tickets are available by calling (609) 214-7234 or (609) 287-1399 or at the Margate Log Cabin. Donations are also welcome, with checks payable to Rockin’ for Life, 2 Harbor Lane, Margate NJ 08402.
