MARGATE—Bad weather on Wednesday evening delayed game three in the best of five series in the Atlantic County Baseball League Championship. For the Margate Hurricanes it was worth the wait as they pulled off the sweep in a come from behind win, 8-5 over a very game Absecon team to claim the crown at home Thursday night before a big crowd.

Doug Hiltner pitched six strong innings with Lou Pepper coming in for the final frame to finish off Absecon.

The Canes were making contact with the ball but strong defense kept them off the scoreboard. Margate was down 5-0 to Absecon when the ball finally started to find the gaps in Absecon’s defense. The big shot of the night came off the bat of collegiate player, Ross Costello who knocked a grand slam in the fifth inning. Costello, of Egg Harbor Township will return to Rutgers in a few weeks where he plays third base.

With the 2012 ACBL championship going to Margate, Coach Yogi Hiltner now has bragging rights to 18 league titles since 1978.
