The Downbeach Express is raising its gates and going toll-free Christmas Day.
The roadway, formerly called the Margate causeway, links Margate, Egg Harbor Township and Northfield. The toll will be waived from midnight Monday, Dec. 24 through midnight Tuesday, Dec. 25 for all drivers, whether Downbeach Express Card holders or cash fare patrons.
“We would like all of our neighbors that are on their way to visit their families to be able
to get there as quickly and easily as possible,” said Dave Goddard, president and CEO of the road’s operator, Ole Hansen & Sons. “It is just one of the many ways we like to say thank you to the community where we all work and live.”
The road has been privately owned by the Hansen and Capaldi families for almost 50 years.
