ATLANTIC CITY – UNICO, an Italian American community service organization, presented new uniform shirts to the TexasAvenueSchool in January. Representatives provided every student in fourth through sixth grade with a new shirt featuring the school logo.
UNICO provided six Texas Avenue School families with BJ’s gift certificates after Hurricane Sandy and supported the school Angel Tree program by sponsoring families of students during the holiday season.
The Greater Atlantic City chapter of UNICO National was founded in 1980 in the section of Atlantic City known as Ducktown. The organization strives to live up to the motto “Service above self.” Members are civic-minded people of Italian descent.
The local chapter is primarily focused on fostering higher education by giving scholarships to high school seniors who will be attending college. After Hurricane Sandy, members felt they should help people in the communities where its roots were established.
