Ventnor Police have a suspect in custody following an alleged assault on a female jogger Sunday evening on north end of the city boardwalk.

Allis Chalmers, 18, of Ventnor was arrested April 28 and charged with criminal restraint, criminal attempt at sexual contract and simple assault. Police say a 22-year-old Ventnor resident was jogging just after 10 p.m. when the suspect allegedly grabbed her from behind and attempted to choke her. The victim was able to scratch the attacker, break free and run into the Regency Towers condominium at 5200 Boardwalk where she called police with a description of the assailant.

According to police, Chalmers was found minutes later, identified and placed in custody. He is lodged in the Gerard L. Gormley Justice Facility in lieu of $50,000 cash bail set by Judge Mary Siracusa.
