VENTNOR – The Philadelphia Eagles cheerleaders will join Rockin the Thunder Thursday, July 4 at Cambridge Avenue beach.

The cheerleaders will drop in on the event sponsored by the Ventnor Tourism Association noon-1:30 p.m. Thursday, July 4. In May, they were photographed for scenes for the latest edition of the Philadelphia Eagles swimsuit calendar in Ventnor and proceeds from the calendar will benefit the Hurricane Sandy New Jersey Relief Fund.

Michael Einwechter, director of the association, said the event is adding an unloading zone on the beach block around the pier so people can unload their beach gear and find street parking or a spot at St. James Church on Newport Avenue. There are municipal parking lots at Newport Avenue beach block, Newport Avenue across from St. James Memorial Hall and Suffolk Avenue beach block.

The event will also add a timed race through more than 100 tires along the beach, he said.

The music festival begins at 10 a.m. with Nikki Davis performing the national anthem and then starting off the first set of the day.

Other bands include the Goons at 11:15 a.m., Ventnor resident Bob Sterling and his band at 1 p.m., Kenny Young Band at 3 p.m., Margate resident Mia Bergmann at 4:30 p.m., Williamsboy & Co. at 6 p.m. and Turning Point Band will perform at 8 p.m.

There will be fun for the whole family beginning at 11 a.m. with a tug-of-war underneath the Ventnor Municipal Fishing Pier.

Competitors will have their choice between blueberry, apple or cherry pie in the “American Pie” eating contest at 12:30 p.m. Judges will pick the best swimsuit and award Miss Rockin the Thunder in a competition beginning at 2 p.m.

At 3:30 p.m. couples will set off in a scramble race from the boardwalk to a spot near the water and set up for a day at the beach. The winning couple will receive a gift certificate to a restaurant in Ventnor.

The Ventnor Tourism Association is giving away a Charbroil grill courtesy of Schallus and Sons Construction through a Facebook contest. To enter, share “Rockin’ the Thunder giveaway” post on the Ventnor Tourism Facebook page.  The winner can use the grill on Thursday since Ventnor permits barbecuing on the beach July 4-7.

Rockin the Thunder also includes face painting, caricatures and stand-up paddle boarding lessons courtesy of Tom Forkin of AC Surf School. New Jersey Hope and Healing and other organizations will have representatives at the event.

At 9 p.m. fireworks launching from Margate and Atlantic City will be visible from the Ventnor beach.
