VENTNOR – Laheska Ramirez, 10, who was reported missing since dusk Tuesday, has been located and is safe, police said early Wednesday afternoon.

The Ventnor Police Department had issued an urgent message Wednesday morning, Feb. 5 to be on the lookout for the girl, whose family had reported her missing.

Ventnor Police Chief Michael S. Miller issued a brief statement via email: “Juvenile has been located. Safe and sound.”

Ramirez had been last seen near her house at 10 S. Hillside Ave., when she went around the back of the house to find something, her father Walter Ramirez said. Her family checked the area around their house and the beach, where she liked to go, but found no sign of her. They even checked area hospitals to no avail.

Her mother, Carmen Ramirez, said via telephone Wednesday that she was relieved when Laheska was found safe at a friend’s house. She declined to provide a reason for her daughter’s disappearance. Her sister has removed all postings about the matter from her Facebook page.

“We are thankful for everyone’s help. Everything is OK now,” Carmen Ramirez said.
