This Margate home will be participating in this year’s JFS House Tour on Aug. 4. This Margate home will be participating in this year’s JFS House Tour on Aug. 4. MARGATE - Jewish Family Service of Atlantic and Cape May Counties is looking for homeowners to participate in its 27th annual House Tour scheduled for 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday Aug. 4.

The event, which features six to eight luxurious homes in the Downbeach communities of Ventnor, Margate and Longport, is attended by nearly 1,000 supporters of the organization’s Village by the Shore program.

With several homeowners already committed, including bayfront and beach block property owners, JFS is still looking for interesting and unique homes to offer diversity to the tour. Whether it is a vast art collection or unique architecture, each home offers something different to add to the experience of the tour.

“With the bad winter weather we experienced, many homes that we thought would be on this year’s tour are currently undergoing construction and are unavailable for the 2014 House Tour,” said Johanna Perskie, who is co-chairing the event with Stephanie Lutz-Koch.

Perskie and Lutz-Koch, who are accepting the reins from previous chairwomen Beth Shor and Susan Lutz, are working to infuse aspects of past events with new and exciting components and community assets, such as transportation and food.

This year, the committee hopes to get other young Absecon Island community members involved.

“The House Tour is a tradition on the island and it would be great for the young leaders of the community to show their support and get involved by participating on the committee, volunteering the day of the event or even offering their house for the tour,” Lutz-Koch said.

Proceeds of the event benefit Jewish Family Service’s Village by the Shore program, which provides a variety of concierge, volunteer and professional services and socialization for adults over 50 that help them age in place.
