State police are investigating the discovery of a body found in Longport's Rainbow Channel about a quarter-mile from the Ocean City bridge.

"It's still a very active scene," Sgt. Brian Polite of the New Jersey State Police said.

Polite said the body was discovered by a pleasure boater, who called police.

Troopers from the Atlantic City Marine Station are on the scene.

Polite said there was no confirmation on the condition of the body, nor was a positive identification made.

"The gender is not known," he said.

Police could not confirm whether the body is that of a 14-year-old boy who went missing in the water off Ocean City on Sunday.

The remains will be taken to the Cape May County Medical Examiners office for an autopsy.
