VENTNOR CITY – A Pennsylvania man who resided part-time in Ventnor was charged and arrested Friday, July 18 for engaging in sexual conduct with a 16 year-old Cape May Court House female, Atlantic County Prosecutor Jim McClain said.

Marcus M. Beto, 29, of the 400-block of West Orange Ave., Lititz, Pa., was arrested Friday evening, July 18. Beto was charged with one count of second-degree endangering the welfare of children, and one count of third-degree endangering the welfare of children.

The arrest came after a five-month investigation by the Atlantic County Prosecutor’s Office Special Victims Unit, the Cape May County Prosecutor’s Office and the Middle Township Police Department.

The state alleges that Beto met the victim on an Internet site, and transported her from Cape May Court House to an apartment in Ventnor on multiple occasions where he engaged in sexual acts and photographed the naked child for the purpose of sexual gratification.

Beto was lodged in the Atlantic County jail in lieu of $200,000 full cash bail set by Ventnor City Municipal Court Judge Mary Siracusa.

A crime of the second degree carries a potential sentence of five to 10 years imprisonment in New Jersey state prison. A crime of the third degree carries a potential sentence of imprisonment of three to five years.
