Organ restoration committee kicks off Armed Forces Week with silent film screening

ATLANTIC CITY – A screening of the silent film “Wings” accompanied by live organ music will kick off Armed Forces Week 7:30 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 10 at historic Boardwalk Hall. The screening will raise funds to preserve and restore two organs at Boardwalk Hall, one of which is the largest in the world.

The Armed Forces Parade will be held on the Boardwalk Monday, Aug. 11 and the Atlantic City Airshow on Wednesday, Aug. 13.

"Wings" is a 1927 American silent film set during World War I. It was produced by Lucien Hubbard, directed by William A. Wellman and released by Paramount Pictures. It stars Clara Bow, Charles "Buddy" Rogers, Richard Arlen and Gary Cooper, whose appearance launched his Hollywood career. Wings won the first Academy Award.
