EGG HARBOR TOWNSHIP — The Community Partnership for Egg Harbor Township Schools, Inc. will host the Friends of Chuck Donovan Grapes and Greens Garden Party, Wine Tasting and Auction at 6 p.m., Saturday, Sept. 20, on the grounds and clubhouse of the Hidden Creek Golf Club here.

While past Community Partnership wine tasting fundraisers have been formal sit-down affairs, this year’s event will take the shape of an endless cocktail party, featuring a variety of buffet-style small plates and wine pairings.

The fun, friendly and informal format will allow guests to experience the club’s indoor and outdoor charms.

The Egg Harbor Township branch of the Atlantic County Library System hosts a discussion of book “The Goldfinch” by Donna Tartt at 6:30 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 4. Other upcoming discussions are: “The Hiding Place” by Corrie Ten Boom at 6:30 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 2 ,  “The Art Forger” by Barbara Shapiro at 6:30 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 6;  and “My Story” by Elizabeth Smart at 6:30 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 4.

EGG HARBOR TOWNSHIP – Township residents facing unemployment because of the closing of Atlantic City casinos and the economic effect on related businesses will be able to learn what job training and support services are available during the Wednesday, Sept. 3 Township Committee meeting.

The information session, which will start at 5:30 p.m., will be held at the Egg Harbor Township Community Center, 5045 English Creek Ave.

EGG HARBOR TOWNSHIP –  A therapeutic horseback riding center in Egg Harbor Township is hosting an open house as part of the “100 Days, 100 People” competition to introduce as many new people to horses as possible.

 Hearts Therapeutic Riding Center, LLC will be holding an open house on Sunday, Aug. 31 from 1 to 4 p.m. at its center, 214 Asbury Road, Egg Harbor Township. The event is free and open to the public.

EGG HARBOR TOWNSHIP – The Egg Harbor Township Police Department will be conducting a drunk driving checkpoint Friday, Aug. 29 from 10 p.m. to 3 a.m. in the westbound lane of the Black Horse Pike between the intersections of Tilton Road and Uibel Avenue.

The goal of the checkpoint is to raise awareness of the dangers of consuming alcohol and drugs prior to getting behind the wheel of a motor vehicle along with high visibility enforcement.

Information session for EHTHS freshman parents tonight

The Egg Harbor Township High School will host its freshman orientation from 9 a.m. to noon on Monday, Aug. 25. Students will go through abbreviated schedules and hear presentations. Busing is provided. Representatives from athletic teams and student clubs also will be available with information.

Later in the evening, parents on incoming freshmen are invited to attend a separate information session at 6:30 p.m. in the auditorium. The administration will present details on academic programs, athletics and student services.

The series is open to adults and teens and is 6 p.m. Mondays. All are welcome to ask questions and participate in the discussions.

Bright Stars Gymnastics and Swim Academy of Linwood held its Annual Family Fun event to benefit Alex's Lemonade Stand on Friday, Aug. 8. With the help of community support, the gym has raised more than $25,000 over the past several years for Alex's Lemonade Stand.  

“The event this year was extra special since we had Alex's mom Liz Scott, co-founder of Alex's Lemonade Stand attend our event,” said owner Bonnie Petitt.
