LICK cat fundraiser home shopping night

Life Improvement for Cats and Kittens (LICK) will host its first home shopping night fundraiser 6 to 9 p.m. Friday, May 13 at the Scullville Fire Hall on Somers Point-Mays Landing Road in Egg Harbor Township. Vendors will include Party Lite, Tastefully Simple, Silpada Sterling Silver Jewelry, 31 Gifts, Pampered Chef, Party Gals, Mary Kay, Kitty Collage, Tupperware, Herbal Life, and Stampin Up. All proceeds will benefit LICK, an all-volunteer non-profit cat rescue and sanctuary.

 

300th anniversary time capsule

The Egg Harbor Township 300th Anniversary Committee invites the public to attend the dedication ceremonies for the “Gift for EHT” 2 p.m. Saturday, May 14 in front of the Egg Harbor Township Municipal Building. The township’s tercentennial committee will bury the gift, a time capsule, which is topped with a granite 300th Anniversary logo and surrounded by three benches representing each century of Egg Harbor Township’s history. The display will be illuminated by solar lighting. After the dedication, there will be a reception in the Municipal Building’s main foyer area. Spring Festival

Egg Harbor Township High School Renaissance presents a Spring Festival from noon to 5 p.m. Saturday, May 14 at the high school. Admission is $3 and proceeds will assist in awarding scholarships to graduating seniors. Among the food, fun and festivities at the festival will be a dunk tank, story time, face painting, carnival games, a magician, police and fire demonstrations, silent auction, door prizes and a 50/50 drawing. The Arc Goes Hollywood

The Spotlight Players will perform “The Arc Goes Hollywood” 2-4 p.m. Sunday, May 15 at the Katz JCC, 501 N. Jerome Ave. in Margate. This is the Spotlight Players’ fifth annual spring production. This year's show will feature performances of songs from hit movies including “Footloose,” “The Wizard of Oz,” “Singing in the Rain” and more. There will also be a special tribute in memory of Dina Scoppa, a Spotlight Player from its inception who passed away this past winter. The cost is $4 and tickets are available at the door. Blood drive

Kids Turn Out

The Egg Harbor Township Recreation Department is holding a series of Kids Turn Out activity nights for children from 5:30 to 9:30 p.m. on upcoming Fridays. The next activity night is set for Friday, May 20. Other sessions are scheduled for Friday, June 3, and Friday, June 17. The program is open to children in grades kindergarten through sixth and will be held at the Egg Harbor Township Community Center off English Creek Avenue. RSVP by the Thursday before the event. PAL motorcycle rally

The annual motorcycle ride in memory of Egg Harbor Township Police Athletic League volunteers Dennis McGurk and his wife, Oksana, will be Sunday, May 29. Registration is from 10 to 11 a.m. at Bennett Chevrolet, 7621 Black Horse Pike in Egg Harbor Township. The cost is $20 per rider and $10 per passenger. The ride will end at Chickie’s and Pete’s on the Black Horse Pike. This is a family event with activities for everyone; all are invited. For information call the PAL at (609) 645-8413.

 

Peddler’s Village annual craft show trip

The Egg Harbor Township Recreation Department is sponsoring a trip to the Peddler’s Village craft show Saturday, June 4. This juried outdoor exhibition features a variety of original work and allows guests to stroll the village with its shops and dining establishments. The bus will leave Egg Harbor Township at 8 a.m. and leave Peddler’s Village at 6 p.m. The cost is $35 per person. For information and to register call (609) 272-8120.

 

Alder Avenue Middle School beef and beverage

The Alder Avenue Middle School Parents Club is holding an all-you-can-eat beef and beverage 7-10 p.m. Saturday, June 4 at Mangia by the Greens at 3016 Ocean Heights Ave. in Egg Harbor Township. The cost is $20 and includes hot roast beef, baked ziti, chicken wings, salad, soda, beer and coffee. There will be a DJ and a silent auction. PAL ‘Fair for All’

The Egg Harbor Township Police Athletic League is hosting its annual “Fair for All” on Saturday, June 11 at the Ready to Ride Center at 2590 Ridge Ave. There will be go-kart and hay rides, paintball events, Wii games, a police K-9 demonstration, bouncers, a petting zoo, radio-controlled trucks and boats, police and fire and military equipment on display, food, and other fun events. Washington, D.C. trip

The Egg Harbor Township Recreation Department is sponsoring a bus trip to Washington, D.C. on Saturday, June 11. The bus will leave the EHT Municipal Building at 7 a.m. and leave Washington at 6 p.m. The cost is $35 per person. For information and to register call (609) 272-8120.

 

EHT Hooked on Fishing, Not on Drugs fishing trips

The Egg Harbor Township Parks and Recreation Department and the Egg Harbor Township Municipal Alliance have once again hooked up to sponsor the 19th annual season of “Hooked on Fishing, Not on Drugs” fishing trips aboard the Starfish out of Sea Isle City. Children 7-12 need a parent or guardian to attend with them; parents or guardians are not required for children 13 and older. The cost is $15 per child per trip and $10 per parent or guardian. The trip dates are Saturday, June 11; Monday, July 18; Thursday, Aug. 4; Sunday, Sept. 18; and Saturday, Oct. 22. Early registration is recommended. ARCH summer camps

The Atlantic Riding Center for Health will hold a weekly summer camp for children ages 7-12 (with or without disabilities) from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. daily for the weeks of June 27, July 11, July 25, Aug. 8, and Aug. 22. Camp will be held at the ARCH facility at 206 Asbury Road in Egg Harbor Township. The cost is $300 per week, and each camp is limited to 10 participants. Children will learn about horses through arts, crafts and riding. There is also a riding camp for riders 12 and older, which offers beginners through advanced levels with hunter, jumper or dressage focus. Call (609) 926-2233 for information or to register.

Astronomy Club

ARCH programs

The Equine Assisted Growth and Learning Association (EAGALA) is holding workshops 7-8:30 p.m. every Monday night in March at the Atlantic Riding Center for Health, 206 Asbury Road. The workshops are a unique growth and learning experience for individuals or couples living with or caring for the disabled. Horses will be used to develop coping skills, better relationships, time management and clear communication. Understanding mental disabilities such as autism and Asperger’s syndrome will be included. In addition, ARCH now has additional openings for therapeutic riding lessons at its Egg Harbor Township facility and riding sessions for veterans designed to promote core strength, balance, coordination and energy in a relaxed social setting. Kindergarten registration under way

Egg Harbor Township School District kindergarten registration for the 2011-2012 school year is open. Students must be 5 years old by Oct. 1, 2011 to enroll. For a registration appointment, call (609) 927-4141, ext. 1101. Children do not need to be present at registration. Only the legal parent or guardian of a child can register students in the district. Bring custody papers (if not the legal parent), birth certificate, immunization records and proof of residency (deed, mortgage or tax bill; current utility bill; driver’s license) to the registration appointment.

 

AtlantiCare seminars, support groups

The AtlantiCare LifeCenter at 2500 English Creek Ave. in Egg Harbor Township hosts a number of support groups. Topics include diabetes, gastric bypass and lap band surgery, breast cancer, and radiation and chemotherapy treatments. For information call the center at (888) 569-1000.

Boy Scouts meet

Boy Scout Troop 177 meets 7 p.m. every Wednesday at the Scullville Fire House, 1708 Somers Point Road in Egg Harbor Township. Open registration is available, and Webelos applications for cross-over are being accepted. Scouting involves honor, respect and values, building friendships, achieving goals, and community service. Kiwanis Club

The Egg Harbor Township branch of the Atlantic County Public Library hosts a current-events discussion group 10:30 a.m. to noon every Wednesday at 1 Swift Road off Ocean Heights Avenue.
