(updated Thursday, Dec. 6) The event has been postponed. No new date has been provided at this time.

EGG HARBOR TOWNSHIP – The student-run fundraising group Chapters for Charity will hold its second annual book sale 10 a.m.-3 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 8 in the cafeteria of Egg Harbor Township High School.

Avid bookworms can pay $5 for early access to the presale from 9 a.m.-10 a.m. Proceeds benefit the Alcove Center for Grieving Children and Families.

For its first book sale, Chapters for Charity received more than 7,000 books and raised more than $1,700 for the Alcove.

“Last year’s book sale completely exceeded my expectations,” said Caroline Tesone, an Egg Harbor Township High School senior who founded Chapters for Charity last year. “I was amazed by the number of books that were donated and the amount of money we were able to raise.”

She said she attended counseling at the Alcove after the death of a loved one in 2010, and it is rewarding to be able to give back to an organization that has done so much for her personally.

Her goal is to surpass last year’s sales, she said, and so far the group has more than 5,000 books in a variety of genres that will be available for purchase. Hardcover books will be priced at $2 each, and paperbacks will be $1.

The Chapters for Charity book drive was created to raise awareness of and funds for the Alcove, which provides counseling and other services to children and adults who are grieving.

Chapters for Charity has also resulted in bridging volunteerism and youth literacy in the community by increasing the availability and access of books, according to organizers.
