Bright Stars Academy is marking its ninth anniversary with meet and greet with one of the sport’s top athletes, Olympian Jonathan Horton, on Saturday, Feb. 2. The public celebration will be held from 5:30 -7 p.m. during which Horton will make an appearance, sign autographs and host at question and answer session. All attendees will receive a special gift while supplies last and can enjoy a slice of birthday cake. No preregistration is necessary.
Following the public event, Horton, two-time Olympic gymnast, will lead a warm-up with the gym’s teams followed by a clinic in flexibility, conditioning and tumbling from 7:15-8:45 p.m.. The clinic is open to all USAG and IGC gymnasts that are part of the gym, but space is limited to 50 individuals. Preregistration for this portion is required. Cost is $25 each.
On Sunday, Feb. 3 from 9-10:30 a.m., Horton will again appear at the gym during a special open gym opportunity. He will lead a group warm up and will stay on hand during the open play for children 7 years and older. “The kids will have the opportunity work on skills in our gym and some kids may even receive some coaching tips from Jonathan,” said gym owner Bonnie Pettit. Cost for the open play is $20 and boys and girls must be registered in advance.
