Field trip policy revamped

The Board of Education unanimously adopted changes to its policy on field trips during its meeting Tuesday, Feb. 14.

The policy change states that the board now also recognizes “that there are secondary purposes that can also be incorporated to meet more diverse goals for certain students and programs.” Field trips can be an effective tool to motivate students as part of a behavior management plan, the new version states.

The changes came as a result of a proposed field trip to a Pennsylvania ski resort as a reward for students of the Eagle Academy who exhibited good behavior. During its meeting in January, the board denied the trip because its purpose did not follow the board’s official policy.

After it adopted the policy changes, the board unanimously approved the trip.

Math league to be created

The purpose of the club is to participate in the American Mathematics Competition, Math League and Moody’s Mega Math Challenge. Teacher James Noble volunteered to act as coach to the club, which will be self-funded.
