EGG HARBOR TOWNSHIP — A forest fire on 1 acre of woods along Winnepeg Avenue in the Cardiff section of the township was extinguished around 4 p.m. this Monday, April 9 without damage to the properties or residents living along this residential street, Cardiff Volunteer Fire Company Chief Rob Winkler said.

A plane from the state's Forest Fire Service was used to extinguish the flames before it and the firefighters were called to respond to another call of a forest fire along Eagon Avenue near Delilah Road.

Winkler said he anticipates the spring and summer seasons to be exceptionally active for forest fires this year because of the lack of winter precipitation.
