EGG HARBOR TOWNSHIP – A Port Republic man died following a four-car crash that occurred Wednesday, June 27 in the Cardiff section of the township, police said.

Richard Bourginon, 57, died from injuries sustained during a car accident that happened at approximately 2:20 p.m. on West Jersey Avenue near the intersection of Fernwood Avenue.

Bourginon was driving a Chevy truck owned by the Atlantic County Utilities Authority east on West Jersey when a 2006 BMW X5 driven by Igor Ilijoski, 36, of Brigantine failed to stop at a stop sign on Fernwood Avenue and entered the path of Bourginon’s truck, police said.

Bourginon’s truck left the roadway after the impact, coming to rest on the front lawn of a nearby residence. He was treated at the scene for serious injuries and transported to AtlantiCare City Campus Trauma Center where he later died from his injuries.

The BMW was also struck simultaneously by westbound 2000 Honda CRV, operated by Helga Horn, 77, of Mays Landing, whose car sustained significant damage. The impact caused the BMW to overturn in the roadway, police said.

Ilijoski was flown to AtlantiCare City Campus Trauma Center by Medevac 5.

A fourth vehicle, a 2003 Mazda operated by Elaine Eastlack , 86, of Mays Landing was involved in the crash after the initial impact, police said. This vehicle also sustained severe damage and came to rest in the intersection.

The Cardiff Volunteer Fire Company assisted at the scene. Several AtlantiCare paramedic units and ambulances from Egg Harbor Township, the Atlantic City International Airport, Absecon and Galloway treated Eastlack and Horn at the scene and transported them to AtlantiCare Mainland Campus in Galloway.

The road was closed for approximately for hours while the crash was investigated and cleared.

The incident is being investigated by Ptl. Kevin Devlin, Ptl. Tom Rocco and Ptl. Patrick Daly.
