EGG HARBOR TOWNSHIP – A 65-year-old Pleasantville man was arrested Thursday, Nov. 1 for allegedly stealing about 15 cartons of cigarettes from the Super Wawa on the Black Horse Pike in the Cardiff section of the township.
Howard Lee Gray was identified by Detective Scott Hiltner after a video of the Tuesday, Oct. 9 theft was provided by Wawa showing Gray stealing cigarettes valued at $1,170 from behind the counter, police said. Hiltner executed the search warrant.
Gray was conditionally released on his own recognizance by Judge H. Robert Switzer pending a court appearance.
Police are also searching for Bryan A. Rankin, 23, of Pleasantville in connection with four separate incidents in which $1,000 worth of cigarettes was stolen from Super Wawas on the Black Horse Pike and on Tilton Road Wednesday and Thursday, Oct. 17 and 18.
After viewing videos and with the assistance of Pleasantville police detectives, Detective Reynold Theriault determined that the four thefts were committed by the same person and identified Rankin as the suspect.
A no-bail warrant was issued by Switzer for Rankin’s arrest. Rankin is also wanted on an outstanding warrant on a similar but unrelated charge in Pleasantville.
