EGG HARBOR TOWNSHIP – Branching off of its popular annual Christmas chorale concert, Atlantic Christian School is hosting a “Christmas Around the World” event from 4:30 to 9 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 4 featuring displays of how other countries celebrate the holiday through crafts, food and more.

“Our chorus is truly amazing. When my mother was sick with cancer, she made us get her out of her sickbed to go see the chorus because they are that good,” said the school’s director of advancement, Corie Taylor.

Chorale director Brian McSee is the male equivalent of Sister Mary Clarence, the character Whoopie Golberg plays in the movie, “Sister Act,” according to Taylor.

“He dances around – it’s great,” she said.

Just as she experienced with her mother, the concert is always a perennial favorite, she said, so the administrators decided to expand the evening for more fun.

“There’s not a lot of family oriented events in this area that don’t cost an arm and a leg,” Taylor said. “We want people to know that this school is here for them and they can come by for good quality family entertainment.”

To prepare for the event, staff and students were divided into nine teams, charged with researching how other countries celebrate Christmas and decorating their portion of the school hallways accordingly, she said.

There will be at least 40 crafters selling their handcrafted items ranging from woodwork to crochet, and from jewelry to ornaments.

“I’ve had so many vendors call me to sign up because a lot of them missed out on other shows because of Hurricane Sandy,” she said.

The senior class will be taking family holiday portraits as a fundraiser for its senior trip, and the Parent Teacher Fellowship will be raising money through a children’s craft station and food sales.

“The crafts are an opportunity for kids to make one of five crafts ranging from $1 to $4 as a gift for a family member,” she said.

The crafts available include a simple craft for younger kids, a button wreath, a candy cane mouse, trail mix jar and a candle holder and candle.

Admission is free and visitors can walk around the school, visiting the different country displays.

The activities will be suspended during the hour-long, holiday-themed concert, which starts at 7 p.m. and will reopen after the conclusion until 9 p.m.
