Reportedly largest property loss to fire in New Jersey history and largest assemblage of emergency responders since 9-11

EGG HARBOR TOWNSHIP - More than 60 firefighters from Atlantic County were dispatched at 11 p.m. on Sunday, Sept.1 to respond to a fire in Burlington County,  to assist with fighting a multi alarm fire at the Dietz & Watson distribution facility in Delanco.

Two of those companies were the Farmington Volunteer Fire Company and the United States Air Force Fire Department from the Atlantic City International Airport, both based in Egg Harbor Township.

Both companies were dispatched at 7:30 a.m. hours on Monday, Sept.2 when it was realized reinforcements were needed. The fire departments worked in 12-hour shifts, with the departments that responded at 11 p.m. released at noon the following day and the remaining companies leaving for home at 5 p.m. 

The fire destroyed a 300,000 square-foot distribution facility and is reportedly the largest property loss to fire in New Jersey history and reportedly the largest assemblage of emergency responders since 9-11, according to Dennis Sharpe, assistant chief of the Farmington Volunteer Fire Company.
