Man charged in Egg Harbor Township home invasion, stabbing

EGG HARBOR TOWNSHIP – Egg Harbor Township police are withholding the identity of the 25-year-old Egg Harbor Township suspect they arrested in connection with a home invasion robbery Tuesday, Dec. 17 that left a 91-year-old man in critical condition with stab wounds.

The name and photo of the suspect, who was arrested in the Villas section of Cape May County, are not being released at this time due to further investigation into the incident, police said.

According to police, the Egg Harbor Township victim was stabbed and had his vehicle stolen during an alleged home invasion robbery at his residence in the Tower East Mobile Home Park in the Cardiff section.

Officers Robert O’Donoghue and Ernest Dunson responded to a call at approximately 8:52 a.m. and found the man with stab wounds in the neck and chest.

The victim was treated at the scene by the Egg Harbor Township Ambulance Squad and AtlantiCare Paramedics. He was transported to AtlanticCare Regional Medical Center City Campus Trauma Center. He is in critical but stable condition with knife wounds.

The suspect has been charged with aggravated assault, robbery, weapons offenses, theft and burglary. Bail was set by Municipal Court Judge H.R. Switzer at $350,000.00 full and the suspect was lodged in the Atlantic County Justice facility.

The victim’s vehicle was also recovered during the investigation.

The incident was investigated by Detectives Heather Stumpf, Richard Vogt, Robert Harte, Mark Wagner and Detective Sgt. Fred Spano. The arrest was made with the assistance of the Cape May County Prosecutors Office, The New Jersey State Police and the U.S. Marshals Service.
