EGG HARBOR TOWNSHIP - A quiet and secluded side street was anything but that Monday, Jan. 6 as detectives combed the woods for evidence after a body was found in a suitcase a day earlier.

Egg Harbor Township police detectives joined members of the Atlantic County Prosecutor’s Office Major Crimes Unit in searching the woods about 150 feet west of the intersection of Broadway and Ninth avenues.

The area is behind Harbor Square, the shopping center known as the Shore Mall until last year.

Officials at the scene offered no comment. Published, Facebook and Internet reports claimed a body had been found in a suitcase.

Investigators worked through pouring rain Monday morning and packed up their gear at 12:15 p.m.

A statement is expected from the Atlantic County Prosecutor’s Office later today.
