EGG HARBOR TOWNSHIP – Two Egg Harbor Township residents were held up at gunpoint at the Budget Motel in the West Atlantic City section of the township on Saturday, Jan. 11 and police are now asking the public for assistance in identifying and locating two males, who also allegedly shot one the victim's dog in the encounter.

According to police, the victims heard a knock on the door of their Black Horse Pike motel room around 4:38 a.m. The victims opened the door to see who was there, a decision that allowed the alleged armed robbers to enter the room.

A dog who was in the room with the victims, lunged at the two males and was shot by one of the suspects. The dog, named Twister, suffered a non-life threatening graze wound.

The males then demanded money and fled from the area in a grey or silver-colored sports utility vehicle. The victims described the individuals as two black males, one of which was wearing a mask.

The victims were not injured, police said.

Officers Katrina Cantell, Edward Bertino and Jody London responded to the armed robbery call. The investigation is now being handled by Detective Heather Stumpf of the Egg Harbor Township Criminal Investigations Bureau.
