Longport commissioner's wife among seven killed in Massachusetts plane crash

EGG HARBOR TOWNSHIP – Seven people were killed Saturday night, including Anne Leeds, wife of Longport Commissioner James P. Leeds Sr., and the co-owner of the Phildelphia Inquirer Lewis Katz, when a private jet bound for Atlantic City International Airport in Egg Harbor Township crashed while departing from an airport in Massachusetts, according to the Associated Press.

The Gulfstream IV crashed about 9:40 p.m. Saturday, May 31, as it was leaving Hanscom Field in Bedford, Mass. Witnesses said plane caught fire and ran off Runway 11.

Everyone onboard was killed, the AP said.

Sharon Williams, the Hanscom Field director, said early Sunday morning that families of the victims were being notified, The Boston Globe reported.
