The Egg Harbor Township Board of Education unanimously approved a 5-year contract for current Superintendent Scott McCartney for $177,500 during its meeting Tuesday, June 24. McCartney, who has been in the position for nine years, thanked the board and said he was proud to be at the helm of the Atlantic County’s largest district.

Board President James Galvin said McCartney’s contract is less than he has received in previous years. "He did not get a raise," Galvin said. McCartney is eligible for a merit payment if he meets certain benchmarks and goals set by the board.  That payment would bring his salary to previous year’s levels if it is attained, he said.

“Maybe this will stop the rumors that the board was not going to give Dr. McCartney a contract. That was never the case,” he said in thanking the Egg Harbor Township resident for his work on behalf of the district. "I know that sounds like a lot of money, but this is a big district. There are 8,000 students, 1,700 employees and 9 schools."
