To the editor:

Lance Summerson is a 37-year-old husband and father from Egg Harbor Township.

On Aug. 3, 2012 he suffered a hemorrhagic stroke caused by a hereditary brain aneurysm. He had life-saving surgery to correct the bleeding in his brain that night. Although Lance was still on a ventilator, was unable to move his left side at all and was only able to form short sentences, the doctors and his family are very optimistic about his prognosis.

On Aug. 21, 2012 he was moved to a rehab facility to begin his long road to recovery. Unfortunately, on Aug. 25, 2012 Lance and his family experienced a small setback when he developed a post operative infection and was moved back to the hospital for additional surgery. He is currently in the ICU and is expected to return to inpatient rehabilitation shortly.

The road to recovery is going to be very long for Lance and his family physically, emotionally and financially. The medical bills for surgeries, therapies and rehabilitation for brain injuries like Lances are astronomical. This has become a real financial burden for his wife Erin and son Ryder, 10 months. They could really use your generous financial support to continue to pay for inpatient hospital care and inpatient rehabilitation as Lance progresses.

Erin and Lance’s family and friends are holding a benefit on Sunday, Nov. 11 to raise money for his recovery. We are asking if you would be so kind as to make a donation in his honor. We would be appreciative for any contribution you could make: a financial donation, an item for a door prize or an item to be auctioned at the benefit. Your business will be recognized at the benefit for their generosity.
