Bridge work taking too long

To the editor:
It’s been more than two years since a storm damaged the small, two-lane bridge on Mays Landing-Somers Point Road.
This same storm damaged bridges on Weymouth Road and Route 50. Both have been repaired and are in fine shape.
Nothing has happened on Mays Landing-Somers Point Road where a section of the road remains closed to all traffic.
The Army Corps of Engineers wants to raise the bridges to allow kayakers access under the bridge – why?
I have lived in the area 51 years and have yet to see a kayaker near the bridge, and it has held up in many storms as is!
It did not take two years to build the Empire State Building, but that was 1929-1930 before we had the wisdom of the DEP, the EPA and of course the Army Corps to complicate construction and help run up trillion-dollar deficits.
Meanwhile I can’t get out of my driveway safely due to the detoured traffic, and now Atlantic County wants to raise the tax rate 11 percent. Give me a break.
