It’s that time of summer when parents start switching gears in preparation for the coming school year, but Wendy Platt of Millville wanted to make the most of a few nice beach days before her kids had to hit the books.
In the bags she had lugged to the beach in Sea Isle City, she carried sunscreen, goggles, shovels, boogie boards, buckets, towels, her phone and a camera.
“Sunscreen and camera are right up there with each other for the most important thing,” Platt said.
But among the other items in her bag that would be considered important was some summer reading for her teenage babysitter, Kayla Wells, who is the daughter of one of her friends.
“We’ve got her AP summer work,” Platt said with a laugh.
Wells is reading “Oliver Twist” for her AP English class. Her first day of school is Sept. 6.
Is any work getting done?
“A little bit,” Wells said.
“Now I’m babysitting so that she gets her work done,” Platt said.
