North Wildwood goes Italian this weekend

3-day festival to feature meatball relay, Little Miss Italy Pageant, games, food, music and more 

The North Wildwood Original Italian-American Festival will celebrate its 18th anniversary in the Wildwoods Friday through Sunday, June 22-24 during a weekend of food, fun and Italian-American heritage.

Festivities will take place along Olde New Jersey Avenue in North Wildwood, where street vendors will be selling Italian memorabilia, food vendors will offer a variety of Italian and other food, and there will be free live entertainment all weekend long. Activities take place 4 p.m.-10 p.m. on Friday, 10 a.m.-10 p.m. Saturday and noon-6 p.m. Sunday.

Friday night kicks off with Philly Cuzz 5 p.m. at the intersection of Olde New Jersey and Chestnut Avenues. A procession and opening ceremony will take place 6 p.m., followed by performances by the Marino Brothers at 8 p.m. and Fulvio and Friends at 9:30 p.m. The fun continues on Saturday with a live broadcast 11 a.m.-2 p.m. with Rick Rock of WIBG 94.3 FM. Children's games will be offered all day long, and prizes will be awarded. Philly Cuzz and Eric DeLaurio will perform 5-7 p.m., and the third annual Meatball Relay Contest 7 p.m. In the contest, participants will race while holding a meatball on a spoon and trying not to drop it.

Saturday night's entertainment will feature Moreno Fruzzetti at 8 p.m. and the Cameos at 9:30 p.m.

The festival concludes Sunday with a lineup of activities for the entire family, centrally located in the festival district of North Wildwood. Beginning at noon, come listen to Eric DeLaurio sing Frank Sinatra style and watch the Little Miss Italy Pageant at 1 p.m. Music by DJ Donnie will conclude the festival from 2-6 p.m.

The North Wildwood Original Italian-American Festival is sponsored by Knights of Columbus 2572. Proceeds benefit Catholic education and various other local charities. Admission is free.
