103rd Wildwoods baby parade to salute America’s heroes

The Wildwood Civic Club will present the 103rd Wildwoods baby parade 6 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 1 on the Wildwoods boardwalk. The theme of this year’s parade is Saluting America’s Heroes, and participants are encouraged to dress in patriotic or military-themed attire.

Registration will take place 4:30-5:15 p.m. at the Wildwoods Convention Center, Burk Avenue and the Boardwalk. There is no fee to participate. The lineup will commence 5:30 on the boardwalk just outside the Convention Center, and the parade will step off at 6 and proceed north to 16th Street in North Wildwood, where awards and prizes will be given.

Children can be registered in one of seven categories: cutest baby boy, cutest baby girl, fancy children, most original children, best dressed, costumed and floats.

This year cadets age 6-11 from the Highland Youth Performance Ensemble will march in the parade and perform on the stage in North Wildwood when the parade ends.

The parade grand marshal is retired Brig. Gen. Jeffrey L. Pierson Sr. of the New Jersey Army National Guard, a Wildwood High School graduate with 40 years of military service.

Pierson served in numerous commands and administrative, training and staff assignments, from company level to major command level, and has received a number of military and civilian awards, decorations and honors including the Legion of Merit, the Meritorious Service Medal, Army Commendation Medal, Air Force Commendation Medal, Army Achievement Medal, Army Reserve Components Achievement Medal, Military Outstanding Volunteer Service Medal, National Defense Medal, New Jersey Good Conduct Award, New Jersey Medal of Merit and New Jersey Medal of Honor.

Queen Oceania and her court will be in attendance along with local dignitaries, Miss North Wildwood, Elmo from Sesame Street, Lighthouse Pete, McGruff the Crime Dog, Sparkey the United Way Duck, Ronald McDonald, Eddie the Eagle, and Curley Fry and Sunny C. Gull from Morey’s Piers.

Complimentary trolley service will be available to transport participants from the staging area to the Wildwoods Convention Center parking area.

The rain date is Thursday, Aug. 2.
