Lifeguard coverage cut back after Labor Day Lifeguard coverage cut back after Labor Day

After Labor Day, many Cape May County municipalities will be reducing their lifeguard coverage. Beachgoers are strongly advised to swim only at guarded beaches.

Cape May

The Cape May Beach Patrol is already operating at a reduced schedule, with beaches open as needed and as personnel is available. Sunday, Sept. 8 is the last day beaches will be guarded.

The Wildwood Beach Patrol will provide limited lifeguard services after Labor Day. From Tuesday through Friday, Sept. 3-6, only the following locations will be guarded:

Hildreth Avenue to Hand Avenue, Andrews Avenue to Baker Avenue, Garfield Avenue to Lincoln Avenue, and Pine Avenue to Poplar Avenue.

All Wildwood beaches will be guarded Saturday and Sunday, Sept. 7 and 8. No lifeguards will be posted after Sunday.

Wildwood Crest

All Wildwood Crest beaches will be open and protected by beach patrol staff on Labor Day weekend Aug. 31-Sept. 2 and the following weekend, Sept. 7 and 8.

Because of limited staff, only the following beaches will be guarded from Tuesday, Sept. 3 through Friday, Sept. 6: Lavender, Sweetbriar, Fern, Rambler, Atlanta, St. Paul, Hollywood and Trenton.

Sunday, Sept. 8 will be the last day for regular lifeguard coverage of the Wildwood Crest beaches. Response teams will be available for emergency calls Sept. 14-15 and Sept. 21-22.
