EPA chief to speak at Stockton

GALLOWAY – Lisa P. Jackson, administrator for the United States Environmental Protection Agency, will be the keynote speaker at an Energy Symposium sponsored by the William J. Hughes Center for Public Policy in the Campus Center Event room at Richard Stockton College 8 a.m.-3:30 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 22.

Other speakers will be Jim Benton, executive director of the New Jersey Petroleum Council; Daniel Cohen, CEO of Fishermen's Energy; Patrick Hossay, associate professor of sustainability at Stockton; Donald Moore, Stockton associate vice president; Ben Parvey, CEO of Blue Sky Power; Darlene Pope, CEO of CorAdvisors; David Pringle, campaign director for the New Jersey Environmental Federation; Joe Sullivan, vice president of energy policy and development at Concord Engineering; Zoltan Szabo of the United States Geological Survey; and Jim Walsh, eastern regional director of Food and Water Watch.

Topics will include infrastructure, large-scale alternative energy, energy portfolios, energy in building, nuclear power and fracking.

Black history discussions at Stockton

Richard Stockton College will host four discussion panels 8:30 a.m.-6 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 23 in the Campus Center Theater in celebration of Black History Month. Topics are educating the next generation of intellectuals at 8:30 a.m., black oratory and cultural communication at 10:30 a.m., reality TV and public image at 12:30 p.m. and Malcom X at 2:30 p.m., followed by a showing of Spike Lee’s film, “Malcolm X.” The event is free to the public. Port School fundraiser

The Port Republic School Parent Teacher Society will hold its annual fundraiser Dinner Dance Auction 7-11 p.m. Friday, Feb. 24 at Oyster Creek Inn, in the Leeds Point section of Galloway Township. ‘The Negro Zone’ to be shown

Richard Stockton College will host “The Negro Zone” 2:30 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 28, a presentation by independent filmmaker Atif Lanier and cast members, in West Quad, Room 103. The presentation is free to the public. Call (609) 652-1776.

Bricks honor loved ones

AtlantiCare Hospice offers the opportunity to honor, remember and celebrate the lives of loved ones by purchasing a personalized engraved brick to be part of the AtlantiCare Hospice Celebration of Life Walk at AtlantiCare Regional Medical Center’s Mainland Campus in Galloway. Proceeds of brick purchases benefit programs and services of AtlantiCare Hospice. Bricks purchased by Feb. 29 will be unveiled at the Ribbons and Roses Celebration of Life event May 10. Orders purchased on or after March 1 will be unveiled at the Tree of Lights Celebration of Life event Nov. 15. Options for purchase include a $100 donation for a 4-by-8 inch brick with up to three engraved lines, and a $250 donation for an 8-by-8 inch brick with up to eight engraved lines. Police Unity Tour beef and beer

‘The Way of the Cross’

“The Way of the Cross” will be presented 7 p.m. Sunday, March 4 at Church of the Assumption, 146 S. Pitney Road, Galloway, by the Franciscan Mystery Players, comprised of 13 high school students and four adults who spend Lent representing the Church of Holy Family in Sewell. The play calls for no speaking parts. The actors perform to timed narrations and music with dramatic lighting effects. A free will offering will be accepted. Energy savings workshop

The Green Sanctuary Committee of the Unitarian Universalist Congregation of the South Jersey Shore is sponsoring a workshop 7 p.m. Wednesday, March 7 to showcase energy savings programs offered by the state and federal government. ‘Gami going ‘Into the Woods’

Cultural Arts Center exhibits

Dropoffs for the Galloway Cultural Arts Center’s Breath of Spring exhibit is Saturday, March 17. Dropoffs for the Summer Wonders exhibit is Saturday, June 16. Dropoffs for the Autumn Splendor exhibit is Saturday, Oct. 13. The Egg Harbor City Volunteer Ambulance Company at 700 Philadelphia Ave. will host an all-you-can-eat pasta dinner 4-7 p.m. Saturday, May 5. All proceeds go toward ambulance supplies and equipment. Call for artisan vendors

The Noyes Museum of Art of Richard Stockton College is accepting applications from artisan vendors for its Annual Crafts Marketplace, a two-day event in November showcasing fine art, fine crafts and other fine handmade goods.
