Galloway resident hits pole, flips car on Route 9

GALLOWAY - An elderly Galloway man was hospitalized for injuries he received in a single-car accident on Route 9 near Brook Lane Friday, Aug. 10, police said.
Habib Maqba, 76, was driving a Hyundai Sante Fe north at 9 p.m. and was negotiating a curve when his vehicle left the road, struck a utlility pole, hit an embankment and overturned, police said. The utility pole was shattered in the crash, causing nearby houses to lose power. The road was closed for an hour and a half while the accident was cleared and investigated, police said.
Maqba had to be extricated from the car by the Bayview and Oceanville fire departments. He was taken to AtlantiCare Regional Medical Center City Campus by Galloway Township Ambulance.
Ptl. Ronald Gorneau is investigating the accident.
