GALLOWAY - ShopRite of Galloway at 401 South Pitney Road has initiated a voluntary recall of all store-made ground meat produced and sold Wednesday, Jan. 2.
“There is a possibility that these products may contain small pieces of the black tray lining pad used in the packaging,” said Santina Stankevich, a spokesperson for Wakefern Food Corp. “All varieties of ground beef processed in the store on Wednesday, Jan. 2 are being recalled, including ground beef and meatloaf mix.”
No other meat products sold at ShopRite are affected by the recall, she said.
“We are advising customers who purchased any of these products at the ShopRite of Galloway to return them for an immediate refund or replacement,” ShopRite spokesperson Karen Meleta said. “Although the pieces of the plastic tray liner may not cause an immediate health risk if ingested, we wanted to alert the public so appropriate steps can be taken.”
No injuries have been reported.
ShopRite reached out by telephone to alert its Price Plus Club customers who purchased affected products.
“This is an isolated incident and affects only the ShopRite of Galloway,” Stankevich said. “ShopRite requests that customers please check the labels of any ground meat products they may have purchased from this store and may still have at home.”
Pre-packed ground meat products and ground meat sold in other ShopRite stores in the area are not affected by the recall, she said.
