Saying he hopes the bad times are behind us, Tim McKenna was sworn in as Galloway’s new fire chief Wednesday, Jan. 2.

“I’m looking forward to a good year,” said McKenna, who replaced Ron Garbutt Jr. as chief. “We’re one of the last volunteer fire departments. We represent a great tradition.”

Mayor Don Purdy swore in the new chief whose wife, Holly, held the Bible.

“I’ve known this guy for years – he’s a giver,” Purdy said. “The fire department is non-political. With the storms we’ve had, we could never have cleaned up without their volunteering.”
