Explosion rocks house on Duerer Street

GALLOWAY – Shortly before 3 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 2 a heating device exploded in the basement of a house in the 600 block of Duerer Street causing significant damage to the structure, according to preliminary police reports made public Sunday, Feb. 3.

Investigating officer, Ptl Tom Guercioni, responded to the call at 2:51 p.m. along with other officers shortly followed by members of the Germania Volunteer Fire Department, police said.

The officers arrived to find a lot of smoke coming from the residence and made sure that all occupants were out of the house and safe.

A preliminary investigation revealed the heating device exploded

A small child who was in the house at the time was transported to AtlantiCare Regional Medical Center Mainland Campus for evaluation. 

No other injuries were reported.

The family was reportedly relocated by the American Red Cross.
