ABSECON – Connie Havens and Charlie Aucther decorate their Sooy Lane home with more than 2 million Christmas lights, synchronized to music and a story narration for a light show program.

This year they accepted donations – a total of $5,233.27 – and donated it all to the Greater Atlantic Cancer Fund which helps local cancer patients in need and conducts the Greater Atlantic Bluefish Tournament and the Parkertown Chinese Auction.

The annual light show takes nearly the full year to design, select music and themes and then choreograph into a 15-minute program. Installation starts in early November and the show runs  dusk to midnight from mid-December to New Year’s Day.

Bucket truck, equipment, computer programming, light setup installation and take-down are all done by Havens and Auchter, according to Charles Heuer of the cancer fund board.

“All this while Connie operates her Connie’s Cutting Cove and Salon in Absecon and Charlie runs his excavating and land-clearing business,” Heuer said. “This year Hurricane Sandy did not help. His business was swamped with emergency work at the same time he was to start the light show installation. But, by starting early and working late at night it all got done – and on time.”

Visitors found Santa and Mrs. Claus in their heated reception area – with hot chocolate and cookies for everyone. Outside, costumed characters Frosty the Snowman, Goofy, Scrooge and some elves entertained the crowd.

Havens and Auchter were featured on a television show, “Compulsive Obsessions.”

And they presented a check for their entire proceeds to the cancer fund whose 27th annual Greater Atlantic Bluefish Tournament will open June 1. See www.gabt.com.
