GALLOWAY – Council met for a hastily called 5 p.m. special meeting Tuesday, March 12.
Announced to the media Friday with no reason given, the meeting, held in the historical room at the Municipal Complex, lasted nearly a full hour-and-a-half, right up until the start of the 6:30 p.m. regular meeting in council chambers.
Township Clerk T.C. Kay said that while the special meeting agenda said “action may be taken,” no action was taken.
A posting on the Galloway website said the meeting was being held to discuss possible litigation involving former Township Clerk Lisa Tilton, who has already obtained two settlements with the municipality.
“The purpose of the meeting is to discuss any pending or anticipated litigation or contract negotiation in which the public body is or may become a party,” reads a statement on the township website. “The parties to and docket numbers of each item of litigation and/or the parties to each contract discussed are Lisa Tilton v. Township of Galloway, et al ATL-L-331-12/CPM-L-380-12 and nature of the discussion, described as specifically as possible without undermining the need for confidentiality in attorney client privilege.”
Attending the meeting were all members of council except Tom Bassford who arrived for the regular meeting, Kay, Manager Arch Liston and Solicitor Michael Fitzgerald.
Tilton has not responded to a request for comment. Nor did she attend the regular council meeting. She has routinely attended council meetings since her resignation as clerk in October 2011 as part of her first settlement.
